Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde, De Boisseyt 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde showed beautifully. Offering a ruby hue as well as lots of spiced red and black fruits, smoke, peppery herbs, and flowers, this beauty has background oak, medium-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done. Give it an hour in a decanter if drinking any time soon.

This has a beautiful flow to it, with cassis, cherry puree and raspberry reduction notes streaming through, flecked with savory and floral details and carried by a seamlessly embedded iron spine. A really pure expression of Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2036. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 460 cases (6) made

Boisseyt owns a half-hectare in this famous lieu-dit, producing about 2,500 bottles per year. The 2018 Cote Rotie Cote Blonde hints at baking spices and cedar on the nose but also offers up floral and licorice nuances and a base of mixed berries. The Viognier (from 5% to 15%) is apparent on the medium to full-bodied palate, adding hints of stone fruit and a glossy fattiness to the supple mouthfeel that turns to silk on the lengthy finish. The one-fourth new oak is nicely balanced by intense fruit from vines planted as long ago as 1934, with an average age of 75 years.
