This too is aromatically very pretty with its perfumed aromas of red and dark cherry, violet and sandalwood wisps. There is very fine volume to the powerful and mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the balanced, long and built-to-age finish. This is potentially terrific and a wine that should age extremely well and note that it's going to need at least 6 to 10 years first.
The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Domaine Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, orange rind, raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and lively, this was also promisingly tightly wound when I visited, revealing a bright spine of acidity and chalky tannins that will flesh out with further élevage.
Vibrant ruby in colour. Very floral, delicate and fine on the nose with cherry blossom and violets. Fresh white pepper and ripe strawberries are intense but lifted on the palate, which is bright, delicate and fine. There is a weightless intensity and soft, succulent approachability here that makes for a very moreish quality. This will drink well young with its succulent and integrated tannins and beautifully vibrant fruit.
