The NV (2009) Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules comes across as deep, rich and totally seductive. The 2009 has just been disgorged, and it really does need more time on the cork to mellow out. Today it is incredibly powerful. Layers of deep, radiant Pinot fruit saturate the palate in this rich, compelling Champagne. At the moment it is the wine’s sheer power that speaks loudest, but in time the more refined elements should come through more clearly. Tasted the next day, the Ursules had lost most of its bubbles and had transformed into a wine. Bouchard has now abandoned his experiments in Coteaux Champenois Pinot Noir, but this wine seems to reflect much of that spirit. This is Lot V09, disgorged July 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
