A blend of close to 100% Mourvedre, aged all in demi-muid and from a single parcel of schist soils, the 2011 Cotes du Roussillon Villages La Jasse is a drop-dead gorgeous effort that does everything right. Incredibly complex, with notions of crushed violets, ground herbs, pan drippings, beef broth and damp earth, all of which are ground by a core of black and purple fruit, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness and depth, bright acidity and building, fine tannin that emerges on the finish. Still tight and backwards, give it another 3-4 years in the cellar; it should have an easy 20+ years of ultimate longevity.
